What is Microneedling?
Dr. Allyson Berkey is happy to perform microneedling at her office in Newport Beach, CA. Microneedling uses several fine needles to safely and effectively make micro-injuries in the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the natural production of elastin and collagen, two nutrients that enhance the appearance and health of your skin. Easily combined with other skin treatments, such as Natural Injection Therapy or radiofrequency (RF) technology, microneedling may help reduce pores, stretch marks, and scars. Schedule a consultation at Beyond Regenerative Medicine & Aesthetics to discover more about the benefits of microneedling and how to personalize your procedure for your skin needs and goals.
Our Microneedling Technique
A microneedling treatment takes around 30 – 60 minutes with local anesthesia or numbing cream if preferred; however, most patients report little or no discomfort. The skin being treated will be cleansed before the microneedling handpiece is passed evenly over. Once the microneedling is complete, a treatment like Natural Injection Therapy or a serum with a vitamin infusion may be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer will be massaged in along with UV protection since the treated skin will be more sensitive following the treatment. It can take around 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin supply increases before you notice visible changes in the health and appearance of your skin.
What exactly is microneedling?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a nonsurgical treatment to improve the health of your skin. A natural fibrous protein, collagen helps your skin stay supple, smooth, and firm. Eventually, your supply of collagen is depleted and your skin gets less elastic and thin. Microneedling causes small skin wounds. These micro-injuries prompt your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. Once healed, your skin is firmer, brighter, and healthier.
Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
During the microneedling process, channels are created that make it easier for treatments to reach the deeper layers. That's why microneedling is often combined with other treatments, such as special serums or Natural Injection Therapy. During your consultation, Dr. Berkey and her team will talk about what treatments would enhance your microneedling and which best fit your skin goals.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Typically, patients get 3 – 6 microneedling sessions to see their best results. Although, how many treatments you need will vary based on your goals and the condition of your skin. Microneedling can be performed every 4 – 6 weeks as needed. During your consultation, our team will estimate the number of sessions you might want after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. When your skin goals are reached, Dr. Berkey recommends scheduling touch-up treatments every six months.
